Seda Hepsev  lives and works in Zurich. She completed her BA in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University, Istanbul (2000), her MAS (2004), and a practice-based Ph.D. in Art at Yildiz University, Istanbul (2013).

Her works involve embroidery, weaving, sculpture, and installation, exploring and expanding the margins of the body. Potential of passion, space and subjectivity of the female body are the center of her works. Her  aim is to eliminate the taboos and rituals associated with the female body, which has historically been depicted as either monstrous or benevolent. The fictional figures she creates are monstrous and animal-like, in contrast to the clean, controlled, and orderly bodies. She develops her artistic approach through a visual language that spans from art historical allegories, iconographies, illustrations, and mythologies to contemporary ideograms and pictograms. Body parts, animals, distorted figures, and traditional motifs frequently appear in her works, which often convey a sense of fragility, incompleteness, and complexity.

She won the Kanton of Zurich Art Contribution Award in 2024, the City of Zurich Art Grant  and was nominated for Swiss Art Awards in 2022. She received grants from Pro Helvetia and Saha Foundations in 2023.

Her works have been shown at Museum Kloster Muri Argau (2024), Washhaus Thalwil (2024, solo), Quartz Studio Turin (2023, solo), Helmhaus Zürich (2022), Swiss Art Awards Basel (2022), ‘Grosse Regionale’ Alte Fabrik Rapperswil (2021), ‘Medialität & Materialität’ at Förderverein Aktuelle Kunst  Münster (2021), Austellungsraum Klingental  Basel (2021) and Shedhalle Zurich (2020).
